If a pipe in your house were to suddenly burst your first action should be to turn off the cold water stopcock, that’s the main cold water supply to the house. Most stopcocks can be found in the kitchen under the sink, there are some however that are kept in a hall at the front or back of the house or in a larder.
Any excess cold water in the system can be drained by running the bath taps until the water flow through the burst pipe has stopped.
Our landlord’s insurance provides cover if the unexpected happens.
