You should make a list of any of the items damaged or missing and where possible take photos of the damage as these may help when making the claim. You may also be required to provide a copy of the inventory list and the check out report so ensure these are available.
If your property is fully managed by a letting agent you should also liaise with them. Tenant damage is usually an allowable deduction under the terms of a tenancy agreement so it may be possible for the cost of the damage or some of the cost to be covered by the tenant’s deposit rather than necessitating a claim.
